The English along with Wales Pitted in the Same Group for 2027 Rugby World Cup Down Under

The English side together with Wales have been drawn in an identical pool for the World Cup in 2027, promising a major early clash in the tournament Down Under. Completing the group in Group F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This pairing echoes their famous clash in the group phase of the 2015 tournament, where a Welsh win at Twickenham played a part in the English team's shock group stage elimination.

Other Notable Group Draws

The Irish alongside the Scots also share a group once again, replicating the scenario from the France 2023 tournament. On that occasion, Ireland secured a 36-14 victory, with Scotland unable to advance to the quarter-finals.

Los Teros and Portugal, who each made a strong impression as underdogs in the last World Cup, complete that same group.

Notably, the winners of both Pool D and Pool F are kept apart from defending champions and top-ranked South Africa until the showpiece match, assuming the Springboks top their assigned pool.

Tournament Implications

If the pools conclude according to the current world rankings, other leading contenders like New Zealand and Les Bleus would also be kept apart from the likes of England and Ireland all the way to the final.

In that scenario, Los Pumas would be the remaining top-ranked nation on that half of the knockout draw as England and Ireland.

Tournament Hosts Draw Blockbuster Opener

Hosts the Wallabies find themselves together with their trans-Tasman rivals and triple champions New Zealand in Pool A.

Australia will kick off the tournament in Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a marquee match aimed at jump-start the competition.

Elsewhere, holders South Africa have been paired with the Azzurri, the Lelos and Romania. France are grouped with Japan, future hosts the United States and Samoa.

Larger Format for 2027

Los Pumas will face Fiji, Spain and Canada as the World Cup grows to twenty-four nations from the twenty who competed in France.

The 2027 tournament will feature a round of 16 round for the first time in the competition's existence.

While the winner of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the rugby's heavyweights early on, they will meet the runner-up from Pool B – most likely the Italians – in the last 16.

A total of four of the remaining six pool winners will face a third-placed side from the pool stages.
